Say No to the Bro by Kat Helgeson6/24/2023 ![]() Ava’s plan for surviving senior year at her new school is simple: fly under the radar until graduation. When one event spirals dangerously out of control, Ava and Mark must decide whether shutting down the Prom Bowl once and for all is worth the price of sacrificing their futures. The hijinks of Miss Congeniality meet the high school gender politics of The List in Kat Helgeson’s funny, smart, and exciting (Ami Allen-Vath, author of Liars and Losers Like Us) novel about two teens who become entangled in a cut-throat prom date auction. ![]() And to make matters worse, they both begin to realize that the Prom Bowl isn’t all fun and games. Ava joins forces with star quarterback Mark Palmer to try and get herself out of the competition, but their best laid schemes lead to self-sabotage more than anything else. But all that goes out the window when she gets drafted into the Prom Bowl-a long-standing tradition where senior girls compete in challenges and are auctioned off as prom dates to the highest bidder. ![]() ![]() The hijinks of Miss Congeniality meet the high school gender politics of The List in Kat Helgeson’s “funny, smart, and exciting” (Ami Allen-Vath, author of Liars and Losers Like Us ) novel about two teens who become entangled in a cut-throat prom date auction. ![]() Neat Pieces by Atlanta History Center6/24/2023 ![]() A significant collection of Appalachian folk pottery assembled by guest curator Burrison, author of Brothers in Clay and From Mud to Jug: The Folk Potters and Pottery of Northeast Georgia. And even after Jack paid off Verna to become a better parent, keeping this fact a secret from Jenna, there was no sentimental release. Jenna isn't at all a likable character, so it's not like you were rooting for things to work out between her and her mother. Liz: "How are you not moved by this?" Jack: "Because I'm listening to the words." Aside from those funny moments, there wasn't much else to invest in. ![]() ![]() ![]() His presentation to Jenna about "Saying No To Mother" was funny and informative: "Say no, talk low, let her go." And his line delivery to Liz during the mother-daughter rendition of "Do That To Me One More Time" was the biggest laugh-out-loud moment of the episode for me. Though the story was centered on Jenna and Verna, Jack had some of the plotline's best moments. Hooks filled the role nicely, showing a sweet side as she tried to reconcile with her daughter, and a conniving, manipulative side when she was trying to sell her reality show idea to Jack. Instead, she was written as a drunk, aggressive stage mom who used Ox圜ontin prescription bottles as her identification. Jenna's mother, of course, simply could not have been a normal, nurturing, loving mother. ![]() The christmas killer alex pine6/23/2023 ![]() ![]() * BingeBooks earns revenue from qualifying purchases as an Amazon Associate as well as from other retail partners. ![]() The first in a new series, Alex Pine has written a dark, atmospheric crime novel, set in a snowed-in Cumbrian village, for fans of Val McDermid, Ross Greenwood and LJ Ross. However, Harris’s skill as a writer of fast-paced, glued-to-the-page, twisty plots makes this a spellbinder for anyone. Given the importance of this novel in the overall series arc of Sebastian’s character, longtime readers of the series are going to find this gripping tale especially rewarding. The plot reveals many of the long-sought family secrets about his parentage and his missing mother, but also brings profound grief for him. Set against this tense political backdrop, Harris’s murder mystery presents Sebastian with the most intensely personal crime of his career to solve when he finds his mother dying of a stab wound. When Blood Lies, book 17 in Harris’s Regency thriller series, takes place in Paris in 1815 when Bourbon king Louis XVIII has been restored to the throne of France, but not for long with Napoleon’s outsized presence lurking as a threat to some, and a savior to others. ![]() |
